Overview

Ellen Ryan Field is the home of Saint Joseph's nationally-prominent field hockey program. The facility is equipped with a top-of-the-line synthetic AstroTurf12 surface, state-of-the-art water cannons, an irrigation drainage system, a mobile press box, and bleacher seating for 200 fans.

Since the opening of Ellen Ryan Field in the fall of 2011, the Hawks have become a power in the Atlantic 10, claiming four consecutive Atlantic 10 regular season titles (2016-19) and three consecutive postseason tournament championships (2017-19). The Hawks have also been a fixture in the national rankings in recent years, reaching the top 10 in the NFHCA Coaches poll in both the 2018 an 2019 seasons. Saint Joseph's claimed its first Atlantic 10 regular season crown in over two decades with a 3-2 overtime home win over UMass on October 21, 2016, and two years later, won the A-10 tournament title on its home turf with a 1-0 win over VCU on November 3.

After three-plus seasons of playing home games across town at Drexel's Buckley Field, the Hawks returned home in September of 2011. The field was officially dedicated on October 7 of that year in honor of longtime administrator and the driving force behind the growth of women's sports at Saint Joseph's, the late Ellen Ryan. With the opening of the new facility came a new team locker room, which was renovated in 2016.
